Winter can seem daunting with day after day of freezing, cold weather. It can also pose a challenge to be cooped up indoors, especially if the kids have energy they need to burn. Take a look at some of these things to do in Cincinnati, to have fun and keep warm in the cold, winter months!
The Museum Center is housed in Union Terminal, one of the last train stations built in the early 1900s. Not only is the architecture of Union Terminal stunning, but also the largest half-dome in the western hemisphere. It was a significant means of transportation in Cincinnati during WWII, and just stepping foot into the grand entrance brings an overwhelming sense of history and nostalgia.
The Center houses three separate museums: The Children’s Museum, The Cincinnati History Museum, and The Museum of Natural History and Science. You will have to set aside at least a full day to see all the interesting features this place has to offer.
In addition to its museums, is the OMNIMAX Theatre. Check out this immersive experience in the five-story dome theatre, featuring new films every four months. Some of the most recent films include: The Untamed Beauty of our Natural Parks, The Deep Blue Sea Alongside Humpback Whales, and Dinosaurs of Antarctica.

See hundreds of unique and exotic underwater lifeforms at this gigantic indoor aquarium.
Seahorses, Penguins, Jellyfish, OH MY! The aquarium is not just for looks, as you’ll experience first-hand at the Touch Together exhibit. Here you can touch horseshoe crabs, sea urchins, stingrays, and even sharks! Speaking of sharks… if you are feeling extra adventurous, you must check out the world’s first Shark Bridge, where you walk across a beam just inches above a gigantic shark tank!!
As if this place couldn’t get any better, about halfway through your adventures at the aquarium is Sharky’s Diner (in case you need to grab a bite), as well as the Splash and Bubbles Play Climber to let the kids run and play for a bit! This is just the tip of the iceberg with what The Newport Aquarium and Newport on the Levee have to offer. Check it out for yourself by visiting their website!
Home of the largest train display in the world, this place takes you back in time from early 1900’s through present day with their model trains and depictions of Cincinnati through the years. It is truly astonishing to see this life-like model of the railroad system and the various trains passing through city, county, and mountainous regions! In addition to their train museum, there is a designated play area, maze, and funhouse for those curious little minds to check out during your visit. Don’t miss the upstairs replica of Cincinnati’s early Coney Island interactive model! Talk about a blast from the past!
